Create a custom DarkRP job

Install darkrpmodification and add your first custom job.

Custom jobs are the heart of a DarkRP server. They live in the DarkRP Modification addon, so updates to DarkRP never wipe your work.

Install DarkRP and DarkRP Modification

  1. Download DarkRP and extract it to garrysmod/gamemodes/darkrp.
  2. Download darkrpmodification and extract it to garrysmod/addons/darkrpmodification. Rename the folder if your download ends in -master.
  3. Launch with +gamemode darkrp in your start.bat.

Never edit files inside the DarkRP gamemode folder. Updates replace it, and all custom content belongs in darkrpmodification.

Generate the Job

Open the DarkRP Job Generator and fill in the required fields:

  • Team ID is the job's Lua variable, like TEAM_GUARD. Other code uses it to reference the job.
  • Command must be unique. Players type /guard in chat to switch to the job.
  • Models are player model paths. Pick from the defaults or browse the Player Model List.
  • Max Players limits how many people can hold the job. Use 0 for no limit.

Add It to jobs.lua

  1. Open addons/darkrpmodification/lua/darkrp_customthings/jobs.lua.
  2. Paste the generated code after the example jobs and above the line that sets GAMEMODE.DefaultTeam.
  3. Restart the server or change the map. The job appears in the F4 menu.

Common Problems

  • The job is missing. Check the server console for Lua errors. One missing comma or bracket stops the whole file from loading.
  • Duplicate command errors mean another job already uses that command. Pick a different one.
  • The job is in the wrong place. Its category must already exist. Create one with the Category Generator.
